Car Seat Cuteness!

This is what I did yesterday:
It took all day but I have wanted car seat covers that are easy to remove and clean. If anyone has a baby who spits up a lot or a toddler who eats in the car, you know how nasty car seat covers get! And you also know what a pain in the but it is to take the original covers off. I basically have to take apart the whole car seat to get the darn thing off! So now I made a little slip cover that velcro's around the straps so it comes on and off pretty easily. Our infant seat had a bit of mildew which cleaned mostly off but left some nasty stains... so all problems solved! I was so happy to find more of this Apple and Pear fabric by Alexander Henry at the Joann's in Fairfax last week!

And because Anastasia believes all photo sessions should revolve around her I took this picture too. I put the little apple and pear appliques on her shirt and picked up the matching 70's looking flower pants at goodwill for $1. So the entire set up cost less than $2! And it matches her new car seat cover! Can't beat that.

No baby yet but I don't think she will take too much longer. *crosses fingers* I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow so we will see if there is any new developments in the pregnancy saga.

Absolutely too cute! And smart! Anja's carseat is in amazing shape. She's still in her little infant seat. It's her stroller that is getting pretty nasty....

Do you have your babies in hospitals? I'm guessing the answer is obviously yes, since you posted about being induced. I was just curious!

Thanks! Yeah I have my babies in hospitals (hopefully not on the way! lol). I think I am still too weirded out about having a baby in my house. I also would never forgive myself if anything happened and I enjoy hospital conviniences (drugs). But I know everyone who has babies at home with a midwide LOVE it. Are you thinking of having your next one (when and if there is one) at home?

No, I don't think I'll ever have one at home. Martin is much too nervous for it, for one thing! But I like the hospital conveniences too, not so much the drugs as the yummy jell-o and having an entire hospital staff to cater to your every need. If I ever had a baby at home I know it would not be the relaxing experience that it is for other people.

Of course, you never know, things change! Maybe if we end up having lots of kids I'll sometime try my hand at home-birthing. Everyone around Lafayette is doing it, so I'd be sure to have lots of support!

I love your car seat covers! Do you have a pattern? I would love to make some for our many car seats!

Annie- yeah I feel the same way, I know Nick would NEVER go for a home birth even if I felt like I might be able to handle it. I also had such an awesome labor and delivery last time, I can't complain. The hospital stay for two nights was another story... but this time I have the Dr.'s permission to leave as soon as I would like.

Sarah- I wish I had a pattern but I pretty much just used the car seat cover that came with my carseat to make the pieces. If you turn it over you can see the seams and use that as a guide to trace and cut out pieces. The infant seat was MUCH easier than the toddler one. I looked everywhere for a pattern though and couldn't find anything possibly because it could be a safety thing?

Hey, Clare! Let us know if you need anything! We're not too far from the Hospital if you need us!

Also, I found it interesting that you already have Doctor approval for leaving whenever you want after the baby is born. That's nifty! I kinda had to convince people (Dr. A!) that I was ready to leave after my last two c-sections. With Katerina, as with Michael and Teresa, I left the hospital 2 days after the surgery. With the Patrick C-section, I was outta there the next DAY! Can't stand hospitals. They check on you too darn much! I got no real sleep there and knew that home was the best place for me to heal.

Yeah I feel the same way about hospitals. How is the staff at Inova Fair Oaks? I felt like the nurses were natzis at Holy Cross. So far Inova has been AWESOME with sonograms and my rhogam shot. I was told by Dr. B I could leave right away, but that I may want to stay one night for insurance purposes. That is good to know about Dr. A though because she is doing the induction. We will let you know if we need anything! You are more than welcome to come and visit (I remember how BORED I was last time for the second and third days). I plan on sending Nick out on an Armands and/or Whole Foods run. ;)

Fair Oaks is OK. We have seen it transform through the last 8 years with new renovations and the labor and deliver wing is pretty comfortable. Watch out for the older Asian Nurse that may be checking on you after 7PM. (If she's still there.) She is ALL about drugs! She offered me Percoset, like, 50 million times! Stay away from Percoset! It's a narcotic that could make you wacky! Seriously, though, all I have for pain was popping about 4 Advil/Ibuprophin about every 6 hours? Maybe every 4 hours. Anyway, I did just fine on that to kill the surgery pain. The most awesome nurse there is named Teresa. She's maybe mid-30s, dark hair and REALLY cool. She was with me during the surgery prep and after the babies were born for a short time. I can only guess that she'd also be in to assist with labor as well.

As far as Dr. A goes, she was reluctant to let me go the day after Patrick was born, but just remember, it's your choice as to when you want to leave. As long as there's no medical complications with you or the baby, you can get out of there as soon as you fell comfortable enough to do so. You guys just need to be smart about that.

I'd love to come visit you! Just keep me posted as to when little Isabel comes along! I'm SO excited for you guys!
